大龙国皇帝（黄宗洛 饰）时逢六十大寿，国产下诏进行斗鸡比赛，国产民间遂刮起一股斗鸡热。农民张老三（马恩然 饰）携杂毛鸡进宫打擂，由于每次斗前杂毛鸡都要炊酒，它很快战胜两只雄鸡，月月公主（谢兰 饰）对它爱不释手留在宫中。嗜酒如命的杂毛鸡在宫中出尽洋相，张老三和狗蛋（裴元章 饰）被逐出宫门。慧王向皇帝进言，要杂毛鸡和金鸡决斗，皇帝欣然应允。不知杂毛鸡嗜好的贾才（潘长江 饰）为使金鸡夺冠，给杂毛鸡灌下白酒，结果杂毛鸡有如神助，毫不费力地战胜了金鸡。鸡冠国决定乘胜追击，下战书给大龙国要与金鸡决斗，并设计围困了大龙国皇帝与众大臣......
