故事发生在20世纪四十年代的长白山林区。伐木工魏大山（宁才 饰）为救他人自己被树砸成瘫痪，日韩贪困的家境很快捉襟见肘，日韩无奈的大山求助徒弟黑塔（赵军 饰），想以当地“拉帮套”的风俗回报单身的黑塔，说白了就是让妻子赔他睡觉以物相抵。善良的黑塔愿帮师傅求医讨药，却不愿做这种龌龊之事。黑塔的忠厚侠义感动了魏妻云凤（蒋雯丽 饰），她爱上了这个忠厚的男人。常年的卧床不起，使魏大山男人的自尊大受打击，他的心理开始扭曲，不断虐待云凤，有次被黑塔撞见，狠狠地教训了他。这时云凤怀上了黑塔的孩子，不久生下女儿参花。一晃七年过去，七岁的参花（马思纯 饰）用爬犁拉着魏下山泡温泉，这招竟让瘫痪多年的大山重新站了起来，但他与云凤的情感已经枯竭了......
