There, the men are forced to take part in strange games, the rules of which are never defined - and if they refuse, or transgress the unwritten rules, they're killed. But they may have met their match in New Friend, their latest victim, who starts to manipulate the foursome, setting one against the other.Bizarre combination of late sixties avant garde and sleaze. Director Freddie Francis had made horrors for both Hammer and Amicus but this is nothing like any of them. Shot on location with an atmosphere mixing playground horror and conservatory theatre that is downright weird and unsettling. The great lost girl of sixties British horror, Vanessa Howard, shines as she does in those other rarely seen gems Corruption [1967] and What Became of Jack and Jill [1972]. If Harold Pinter had made The Texas Chain Saw Massacre [1974] for the BBC this could have resulted. Excellent and unique.
回复 :去年导演Peter Greenaway有来香港出席HKIFF, 当然一如过去, 都有捧Nightwatching场. Nightwatching已经是比较容易明白的了, 相比起A Life in Suitcases和一系列的The Tulse Luper Suitcases. 近年多放时间在舞台上的Peter Greenaway, 电影集中描写Rembrandt及他创作油画The Night Watching的过程, 美不胜收, 拍摄手法完美得令人醉倒.这回又是Rembrandt, 怎可错过Rembrandt's J'Accuse属essayistic documentary, 即剧情纪录片. 又一次被对导演杀个措手不及. 有观众离场(好像他的电影总是这样, 有人会钓鱼, 有人顶唔住... ), 虽然没想过此片会是这个形式, 但又是十个惊喜, 不少啼笑皆非的地方.导演这回对油画The Night Watch来个地毯式搜查, 幽默又批判地评论现今视觉艺术知识的无知. 油画上三十四个人物差不多都被细致地分析、研究. 人物的高度, 背景, 手, 甚至身体器官都细谈一番, 某程度上甚具娱乐性.配乐和他的其他作品一样, 依然震撼. 这回由作曲家Giovanni Sollima及Marco Robino负责.第一次在银幕上多次见到Peter Greenaway以教授式解说. 很值得一看.
